Allan Horwitz

Allan Victor Horwitz is an American sociologist and medical sociologist whose research concerns mental illness, psychiatric diagnosis, medicalization, social control, and the relationship between social and biological explanations of human behavior. He is professor emeritus of sociology at Rutgers University, where he was a Board of Governors Professor and held administrative positions including dean of social and behavioral sciences and chair of the Department of Sociology.
